How to Set Up Your Easel For a Perfect Painting Experience
Share
An easel is an artist’s best companion, but setting it up correctly can make a big difference in your comfort and creativity. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, follow these easy steps to ensure a smooth painting session.
1. Choose the right spot
Find a well lit area, preferably near a window with natural light. If painting at night, use a bright adjustable lamp to avoid shadows on your canvas.
2. Adjust the Height and Angle
Set the easel to a comfortable height so you don’t have to bend too much while painting. Adjust the angle to reduce glare and strain on your eyes. A slight tilt is perfect for most paintings.
3. Secure your Canvas
Place your canvas on the easel and tighten the clamps. It should be firm but not too tight. This prevents slipping while allowing easy adjustments.
4. Organize your art Supplies
Keep your paints, brushes, and palette within arm’s reach. Use a side table or tray to avoid unnecessary movement that disrupt your flow.
5. Maintain a Good Posture
Sit or stand with your back straight to avoid strain. Adjust the easel’s height so that your eyes are level with the canvas center.
6. Keep your Easel Clean
After each session, wipe off any paint drops and dust. A well maintained easel lasts longer & keeps your workspace neat.
